Cinnamon Press has a 'shop' and gallery space in second life where we hold readings for authors.
Our SL property is attractively laid out so as to simulate a relaxing environment in which you can meet others and read extracts of our books. Our space can be used as a venue for discussion groups and other gatherings.
There is a flourishing international literary community in SL and some publishers like Random House and Penguin have a presence there. There are groups of authors which operate much the same way as book clubs do in the real world (RL). Participation in these groups is free.
About SL
Second life is a virtual world created and owned by Lindane Laboratories, a US software company. There are several million participants in the game world wide and over 1 million people log on each month.
Players create virtual personas called avatars (AVs) with which they can interact with other players.
SL is free to join – you can pay to upgrade your character, but don’t have to. The game has a currency (L$) with which you can buy enhancements to your AV, virtual land or the products of 'in world' designers. However most players participate with no financial outlay.
If you have Broadband, a reasonably modern computer and Quick Time (free to download and install) then you might enjoy fixing yourself up with an avatar
if you have a headset with microphone you can hear and speak to others 'in world'.
