Author biography
Mark Wagstaff was born by the sea and lives in London. For a time, he lived in Brooklyn, New York, where he studied creative writing at The New School. He never graduated but learned a lot inside and outside of class.
Mark does a day job outside of literature, which provides a necessary corrective to romanticism and pays the rent. Since 1999 Mark has published around 70 short stories in journals and anthologies in the US, UK and Europe. His website lists them all. Many were published in long-vanished journals and Mark may collect those stories together one day. Recently, Mark’s work has appeared in Rockvale Review, Ginosko Literary Journal, Solstice, Does It Have Pockets?, The New Guard and The Write Launch. Mark won the William Van Wert Fiction Award, supported by Hidden River Arts, in 2013 for ‘Some Secret Space’. Mark also recently won Anvil Press’s 3 Day Novel Contest for a second time, with a little sci fi number So We Blush Less When The Phone Rings.
He self-published some books many years ago and has had a few published commercially too. Mark’s second short story collection Burn Lines was published by InkTears in 2014. He won the 39th Annual 3-Day Novel Contest with off-kilter romcom Attack of the Lonely Hearts published by Anvil Press in 2017.
Raucous teen thriller On the Level was published with Leaf by Leaf, an imprint of Cinnamon Press, in 2022. And Cinnamon Press is delighted to publish Mark’s latest novel Mascara, a post-modern tale of politics and mayhem.
