What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and the website collects the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
These send us the details you provide so we can answer your query. We do not store this contact information once we’ve replied to you.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Blogs on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
We share encrytped data that makes our shop facility work, that is with WPEasy Cart, the shop module which only collects the data needed for the order and is only stored on our site, not on the third party shop module developer’s site. Data will be sent to third parties, either Stripe and/or PayPal (depending how you opt to pay) in fully encrypted format when you pay on their platforms. (We receive only the information needed to send your order, not your card numbers).
If you sign up for our email list this is hosted by MailerLite who comply fully with GDPR requirements and never share, sell or rent our customer data to anyone for any reason. Their data storage center is in the European Union and has information storage security certificate (ISO 27001) to keep Subscribers data safe.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
We do not sell personal data, even in anonymised form, to any third party at any time.
We do not carry any third party advertising on the website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information, but we do not have access to your passwords or payment details.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Your contact information
Your contact information will be either or both for site registration (to enable you to buy books, submit to a literary award or imprint ot leave comments) and/or our email list to keep you up to date with news, events and courses. We do not add anyone to the mailing list unless they opt to sign up or ask us to sign them up. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you at any time.
How we protect your data and proof of consent
We comply with relevant legislation and use Complianz software to monitor and update our privacy policy and to track proof of consent. You can request the technical documentation for this.
The payment gateways use encryption and we keep data collection to the miniumum needed to enable the site to function.
We monitor our plugins and software to keep it up to date and secure and also use software to protect the site from hacking such as Wordfence.
Legal framework
We comply with GDPR in the UK and Europe as well as the Data Protection Act UK through both registration with ICO in the UK and through CNIL’s policies of portability, safety and privacy by design in France. We also run data protection software on the site designed by Complianz and have several security features including site backups and firewall to keep data safe on this site.
