Still Life – Nick Jones
… the answer isn’t in these pages.
So the back of this beautiful pamphlet of poetry tells us. Inside, Nick Jones ranges across many of life’s questions, taking in human foibles, our search for meaning and the mystery and wonder of the physical world. Sometimes humourous, sometimes serious, Still Life might not offer answers but it suggests questions and, perhaps, places to look for answers.
Illustrated throughout by the author’s etchings and paintings, Still Life is a moving and extraordinary collection.
Nick was born in Switzerland in 1953. Most of his childhood was spent in South East Kent and he went to boarding school from a young age. He qualified as a dentist and doctor at Guy’s Hospital, where he met his wife. He worked in Nottingham as a consultant surgeon and was appointed Special Professor in 1999. He has written 320 papers, 38 chapters and 7 books in the field of medicine. His first literary endeavour, Encounter, centred on memory, place and the human condition. Nick’s second collection, Night Journey, was based on the experience of a driver at night and is also fully illustrated with his artwork.
